SYMETRIX CORP. of Colorado Springs, Colorado licensed to MITSUBISHI MATERIALS CORP. its Y-1 ferroelectric material for forming thin-film capacitors with EMOD (enhanced metal-organic decomposition) technology. Y-1 is key to the production of ferroelectric RAM chips, which are used in noncontact smart cards. MMC will start making Y-1 this spring at a new clean-room factory near Kobe. Japan's largest integrated manufacturer of nonferrous metals expects Y-1 to add about $1.5 million annually to its sales of thin-film materials within three years.
