NAKANO VINEGAR CO., LTD., which has a major presence in the American market for traditional vinegar through its INDIAN SUMMER, INC. subsidiary, has launched integrated production of rice vinegar at NAKANO FOODS CORP. in Rancho Cucamonga, California. By spending $2.7 million on additional equipment, the firm was able to bring in-house the previously outsourced first step in the production process. Nakano Foods, which uses California rice for its vinegar, expects 1998 sales of $6 million, up 20 percent from last year. The $10 million sake brewing plant that MOMOKAWA BREWING, INC. built in Forest Grove, Oregon in the mid-1990s finally is operational. JAPAN AMERICAN BREWING CO. has the capacity to make about 164,000 gallons of sake a year for sale under the Sapphire brand name to Japanese restaurants around the country and, in time, to liquor stores. The company has forecast sales of $3.2 million this year and $7.8 million in 1999.
